LEST WE DRIFT AWAY

Sermon Notes, October 26, 2014
Rev. Dan White
Pastor Dan’s message was titled “Lest We Drift Away,” and his text was Hebrews 2:1-3.  The previous chapter spoke of the ways God spoke to our ancestors in the past through prophets and angels, but now He speaks to us through His Son.  We need to pay attention to what we’ve heard.  Since the message He spoke through the angels was binding, how shall we escape if we ignore the great salvation God offers through His Son Jesus?
We must remain steadfast.  Pastor Dan told of a friend who thought he could be a Christian and an alcoholic.  It doesn’t work.  We need to make sure we don’t drift away.  It can happen when we start skipping church, or reading our Bibles, or praying.
God speaks to us through His Son.  Hebrews 1 tells us that God spoke to us through the angels, but that speaking through the angels is not nearly as good as speaking through His Son, Jesus, the  Christ.  We are serving a great God who can do great things.  In Matthew 16:18, Jesus says “I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
Stay close to the Lord, and let Him guide you.  Invite people.  Tell them what God has done for you.  God has great things to do for this church.
