STEPPING STONES

Sermon Notes, May 26, 2013

Rev. Gary Smith

Sunday’s service was a Graduation Celebration for our two High School graduates, Samantha Nolan and Destanii Samuel, both of whom graduate from Eastern View High School on Friday.  The celebration started with a reception that included food and fellowship.  After a song, the girls were interviewed by Tim Malony, and members of the audience were given the opportunity to speak or offer advice.

Pastor Gary spoke briefly on Stepping Stones, comparing them to taking small steps delicately in life.  He used the advice of Solomon (the preacher) in Ecclesiastes 12, “Remember your creator in the days of your youth.”  Develop a consistent pattern of life, in the way you live and act.  Remember God in your thoughts, plans and actions.  Make good choices now so when you grow old you won’t have to think about it—following God will be ingrained.  Establish the pattern now; establish the habit now.  Don’t wait to do it until you’re so desperate you’re grinding your teeth (v. 3).  God says “Put me first, and I’ll be there for you.”  Ecclesiastes 11:9—“Be happy, young woman.”

After Pastor Gary’s words of wisdom, a slideshow was presented, showing the girls at various times in their lives, and bringing back lots of memories.
