Sermon

Rev. Garry
McGlinchy
Pastor Garry started his sermon
series “Suit Up! Putting on the full armor of God,” based on Ephesians
6:10-20. If we are united with God, with
our families and others, and with the church, we need the proper gear in order
to fight against the powers of darkness. This gear is not a uniform, and it’s not for
some kind of a game. It’s our protection from the schemes of the devil. As soon as you submit to Jesus, you have a
target on your back. Satan doesn’t want
anyone to serve God.
The first piece of equipment we need
is the Belt of Truth. For a Roman
soldier, tightening the belt meant you were going to war. If the belt was loose and slack, it was a
relaxing time. The spiritual belt of
truth is not only so we will speak the truth, but also be able to discern the
truth.
The enemy will lie to get control of
you. He even tried it with Jesus! We get comfortable and we loosen the
belt. Pretty soon, we find ourselves
starting to believe the lies. Have you
ever noticed? God provides someone in
our lives to tell us “Put on your belt!”
Some of the enemy’s lies show up as a joke. Others omit, or distort, the truth. James
talks about the importance of taming the tongue. With words, or lack of words, we need to
discern and speak truth. THE truth. The devil wants you to believe his truth, but
we know he is a deceitful liar.
We need to encourage the discouraged. We need to tighten up our belts. God will show us the truth, even when we are
running from His call. Replace the lies
you once believed.
Put on the belt of truth and don’t let
it go slack. Keep your belt on, keep it
tight, and anticipate Satan’s attacks
