Sermon Notes, December 25, 2016
Rev.
Garry McGlinchy
Pastor
Garry’s Christmas message was based on John 1:1-14, which begins with “In the
beginning was the Word. . .” The Word in
Hebrew means ‘the agent of creation; the source of God’s message to His people
through the prophets; God’s Law; His standard of holiness.' In the Greek ‘The Word” means the principal
reason that governed the world, or the thought still in living.
It is clear
that John uses “The Word” to speak of Jesus. (v. 14) The very man he knew and loved, and at the
same time the center of the universe. He
is THE ULTIMATE REVELATION of God. He is
the very picture of God’s holiness. He is the One who holds all of creation
together.
God created
out of nothing. Because we are created,
we have NO basis for pride. Remember
that you exist because God made you. You
have special gifts because God gave them to you. With God YOU ARE SOMETHING! You are valuable
and unique. Without Him we are
nothing. To try and live without Him is
to abandon the very purpose for which you we were made.
Do you ever
feel that your life is too complex to understand? Remember that God created the entire
universe. Nothing is too complex for Him
to understand! The very God that created
you is alive today, and His love is bigger than any problem we may face.
