Sermon Notes, July 26, 2015
Rev.
Dick Guizar
Rev.
Guizar’s sermon was titled “Not Where You Want to Be,” and the scripture was John
4, the story of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well. There are 7 words in verse 4; “Now he had to
go through Samaria.” Samaria was between
Galilee and Judea. Many people crossed
the Jordan and walked on the other side to avoid going through Samaria, but
Jesus and his disciples went through Samaria.
Samaria
represents the place between where we are and where we want to be. It is a place where we don’t want to be. It may be a place where the task is never
done. There are certain things you must
do to get on with life. Maybe you’re in
a rut, or bored. Jesus had to go
through Samaria in order to meet a woman.
So
many people are going through “Samaria.” It may be cancer, or divorce, a disaster, or
a crisis pregnancy. They need people
with high hopes to get through. How can
we help? Jesus had a conversation with
the woman, and her life was changed. In
verse 28, she leaves her water jar and runs to town, telling the people about
Jesus. And in verse 39 we see that many
people believed because of the woman..
When
we are going through our “Samaria,” we need to remember that God is in the
middle of Samaria. Lots of redemptive
things can happen there. In your “Samaria,”
remember that something good is going to happen!
