Sermon Notes, February 15, 2015
Rev.
Dan White
Pastor
Dan’s sermon was titled “Committed Love.”
His text was Luke 6:27-36. Luke
6 is much like the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5 & 6), with its lists of
blessings and woes, followed by radical words about love.
Jesus
had love for us and gave out His love.
He tells us who we are to love: our enemies. Jesus says it—we must do it. Who are our enemies? People who don’t like us, people who say bad
things or lie about us.
Loving our enemies is what makes
Christians different. Even sinners love
those that love them, and do good to those that do good to them, or lend to
people expecting repayment.
Jesus tells us how we are to
love. Do good to those that hate
you. Bless those that curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you, turn the other cheek. If someone takes your coat, offer them your
shirt as well. Lend without expecting to be repaid. We’re to treat others with love. Jesus set the example. Love your enemies like Jesus did. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Pastor Dan says, “Know how to treat people and treat them how you know."
