Word has
been received that Richard D. “Pop” Malony passed away, around noon on
Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Greenfield Senior Living, in Stafford. Born January 31, 1920, he was raised in Maryland, and served in
World War II. He worked as an aircraft
mechanic at National
Airport for many years,
retiring from there. He is survived by
his children, daughter Rev. Janice C. Sinozich and son Timothy and wife Denise,
and grandson Jacob Malony. Arrangements
are being made with Johnson’s Funeral Home on Route 20, but are not finalized.
Pop was a
pillar in the Church of the Nazarene in Virginia,
building a cabin and working on the tabernacle at the District Campground, and
building the church in Woodbridge,
Front Royal and Culpeper. He went on
several Work and Witness trips, to South America and the Caribbean as well as
to the Indian School
in Arizona,
using his building skills to further God’s kingdom.
Upon the death of his beloved wife
Ethelyn, he moved to Culpeper, restoring his home in Lignum. Well into his 80s, Pop was not only doing all
his own housework, mowing his eight acres and making brooms and birdhouses in
his basement, but he had a huge garden and shared vegetables with his church
family. He left a legacy of godliness to
all those with whom he worshipped throughout his life, but his most lasting
legacy is the faith he passed on to his children and grandson.
