On Sunday, the children decorated the "Jesse Tree" at church. What is the Jesse Tree? It started a long time ago, with artwork in the church telling the story of God reaching out to humanity to people who could not read, and to help them remember what they'd heard in church. The Jesse Tree represents the root of David, from which Jesus was born. It is Jesus' family history, the promises of His coming found throughout the Bible. Every ornament represents a Bible story, from the creation to Jesus' birth.
This week's ornaments were a tree, to represent the Jesse tree; the world, to represent the Creation; an apple to represent Adam and Eve's sin in the Garden of Eden; the ark, representing God's promise to Noah never again to destroy the earth by flood; a ram, repr esenting the sacrifice God provided for Abraham in place of Isaac; and a sack of grain, representing God's provision for Israel's family through Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his brothers.
Come see the tree, and remember all God's promises, and His greatest gift, His Son, Jesus.
