Barney Bruce Buckhanan, 59, of Culpeper died on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was born on November 21, 1950 in Washington, DC to the late Wesley and Esther Richardson Buckhanan.
Mr. Buckhanan was a member of Our Redeemer Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working with his hands doing carpentry but most of all he loved the time spent with his family. Whether it was teaching to throw a football or the proper techniques of shooting a basketball the time spent with his grandchildren will always be cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Rhonda T. Buckhanan, and five children, Nikiah Mills Duncan and her husband, Larry of Culpeper, Jason Buckhanan of Petersburg, TaNinya Buckhanan of Oxon Hill, MD, Pastor Tonisha Tanner Brooks and her husband, Pastor Elvis, Jr. of Richmond and Dana Buckhanan Green and her husband, Leroy of Culpeper.
Additional survivors include his siblings, Benjamin, Barbara and Brenda Buckhanan and 13 grandchildren, Joseph, Jordan, Jonathan, Makayla, Lydia, Brandon, Kameron, Aydan, Trinity, Jashone, Jason Jr., Shaniya and Nyjai.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 850 Sperryville Pike, Culpeper, VA 22701 with Rev. James Mack officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow in Culpeper National Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 330 and VFW Post 2524.
Pallbearers will be Leroy Green, Pastor Elvis Brooks, Jr., Marshall Brown, Emmett Mills, Rev. George Bowles and Geary Parkinson.
