Richard Dicken Malony
January 31, 1920 - November 30, 2013


 
Richard D. Malony "Pop", 93, of Elkwood VA went to be with his Lord, on Saturday, November 30, 2013. He was born January 31, 1920, son of the late Thomas and Lucy Malony of Cumberland MD. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethylene (Tysinger) Malony and his brother, Thomas Malony, his brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Eleanor Malony, and his sister, Margaret Wright.

He is survived by his daughter, Rev. Janice Sinozich of Stafford VA; his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Denise Malony of Elkwood VA; and his grandson, Jacob Malony of Charlottesville, VA. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Verna Malony of Bedford PA; his niece, Kathy Overholtzer of Staunton VA; nephew Thomas Malony of Stanton VA; and devoted caregiver, Barbara Rhodes of Culpeper and Greenfield Nursing Home of Stafford, VA.

Pop was raised on the family farm in Cumberland Maryland, and served in World War II from 1942 to 1945 in the Army Air corps. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for United Airlines and retired from the Federal Government GSA.

His many hobbies included gardening, woodworking, hunting, photography, and broom making. He was active and vibrant until 90 years of age. His greatest love was his love for the Lord and his church family. He had a Servant's heart. He was a lifelong member and pillar of the Church of the Nazarene, attending Hope Community Church of Culpeper the last 20 years of his life. He went on three(3) Work and Witness Mission Trips to Peru, Arizona, and the Dominican Republic.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at Johnson Funeral Home, 31440 Constitution Highway, Locust Grove, VA., with a funeral service to begin at 4:00 p.m.. A private Graveside Service with Military Honors, will be held the following day at Culpeper National Cemetery, with Reverend John Staples officiating.
