The contrast between God’s way of doing things and our way is never contrasted as much as in the area of human change and transformation. We focus on the specific actions; God focuses on us. We work from the outside in; God works from the inside out. We try; God transforms.
I read this essay several years ago. I had enjoyed many of C.S. Lewis’ works (The Screwtape Letters, Mere Christianity, and The Chronicles of Narnia) but this one has stuck with me more than even these great works. I am constantly finding myself using the “natural self” as the starting point of all my actions. I tried to keep my self and its desires intact until I discovered that Christ had become merely an addition to my self. With this discovery, I resolved to live my life consciously listening to the voice of Jesus and letting the new self – the one that Christ gives me – come to life. Life is a work in progress and my hope is that in these eight days this devotional will do for you what it has done for me.

I hope you will join us as we enter into 24 Hours of Prayer Thursday, April 1 following the Maundy Thursday service 7pm through Good Friday and culminating with a silent Saturday.
24 Hours of Prayer will end Friday, April 2 with the showing of the movie "St. John in Exile" at 7pm.
